The Neighborhood Block Association, City of Richmond and Chevron will be hosting the Juneteenth Parade and Festival. This is the 14th Annual Family Day. The Parade begins at 10 am at Marina Way South and Cutting Blvd with Nat Bates leading the way as the Grand Marshall. The festival will start at 11:30am to 6pm at Nicholl Park on 32nd and Macdonald Avenue. This free family event features children’s activities, food and craft vendors and community organizations. All sponsors are listed on promotional materials and receive mention on fliers, at the website, as well as on stage at the event.
This event commemorates the events that took place on June 18, 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its slaves. On June 19th Granger read the contents of the “General Order No. 3”.
